The times in my life when I have forgiven someone, have left me feeling released from a prison (of my own making). As I understand it, forgiveness is a process of removing the barriers between “us and them” and accepting the humanity of those who have hurt us. And yes, I did see the movie “The Long Walk To Freedom”.
Childhood hurts create wounded hearts. Many of my clients enter the counselling process convinced that they are no good. My intention always is to move them from a place of self-loathing to self–respect.
Somewhere, along the line, my acceptance of our common humanity, helps them find their way home to themselves and to their worth.
Forgiveness implies an acceptance of who we all are. We have all been hurt and we have all hurt others.
When we find the courage to forgive, we break down the walls of hostility that keep us separate. We find a way out of the loneliness, fear and hatred.
I am honored to be a part of people’s journey to freedom …to peace….to heaven on earth…..
